IT'S A......BOY!!!

It's a BOY!! I'm so excited! I actually kind of thought we'd be having a girl. I wanted a boy, but I thought it was going to be a girl. It's was amusing at the 3D/4D ultrasound place. The doctor measures the heartbeat, which was about 158 and starts to say that girls usually have high heart rates, and then she's like, oh, it's a boy. I'm glad we did this extra ultrasound. They gave us a DVD of the session, a CD with 63 pictures on it, a printout of all the pictures, a baby magazine, newborn formula and nipples. The baby didn't really cooperate too well. He kept his hands infront of his face for the most part, but we still got some great pictures. So excited, welcome baby Remington Talon.

Exciting

Tomorrow is the day we find out if we're having a boy or girl! I'm so excited! We'll get to see the baby with 3D/4D ultrasound and they give you a DVD recording of the whole thing. I already told Landon that as soon as we find out what we're having, I want to go to Babies R Us or something and buy something for a boy or girl. I don't know what yet, just something because we can. I'll make sure to post here tomorrow what the results are, until then....

Test can tell baby’s sex 6 weeks into pregnancy

Fetal DNA checked for Y chromosome; experts worry about ethics, accuracy

LONDON - A new test dubbed “Pink or Blue” promises to tell parents the sex of their fetus just six weeks into pregnancy, but critics question its reliability and say it could pose an array of ethical issues.

“The earlier in pregnancy that you do these tests, the less fetal DNA there will be around, and possibly, the less accurate the test will be,” said Dr. Patrick O’Brien, a consultant obstetrician and spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

“At six weeks of pregnancy, it’s questionable whether the technology is that good.”

Parents willing to wait longer can get a head-to-toe ultrasound at 20 weeks that is almost 100 percent accurate. Invasive procedures like an amniocentesis — which carry a small risk of miscarriage — can be done at about 11 weeks.

This news story caught my eye today, as I've been sitting here anxiously waiting until July when we will know if the baby is a boy or girl. I have to admit that I'm irritated that we can tell at this point, but have to wait until the scheduled ultrasound. Would I get this new test? I would say no. What I've been hearing on CNN is that it's not that reliable, granted sometimes the ultrasound is wrong too. I can also see how this test could have a negative impact, and apparently that's why it's not available in China or India, where boys are desired. There are so many things that people can use as an excuse for an abortion, and to me this is just one more. In my opinion, if you're that picky about your baby's gender that you'd have an abortion if it wasn't what you wanted, then those people shouldn't have kids in the first place (ha, along with many other reasons some people shouldn't have kids...anyway...). I think that finding out gender by ultrasound would decrease abortions, because they're done so late (average 20 weeks) and at the same time you're looking at the baby on the monitor. Tests like this can begin a slope towards genetic selection, gender being just one piece. (Has anyone seen the movie Gattaca?) Personally, abortion is wrong regardless, why not just use the test for it's intended purpose (early gender detection) and leave it at that.

45 Days

So, at our doctor appointment today, we set a day to find out the gender. We have to wait until the sonogram person has a slow day and can just fit us in really fast to do a gender check for free, instead of having to pay for a whole ultrasound. That means, we have to wait until July 20th!! 45 days! That's too long... We also listened to the heartbeat again, which was in the 140s, which is normal. Landon also got the call today to go back to work after being laid off for 3 months. Luckily we didn't feel too much effect from it, since he was getting enough on unemployment, and I'm getting paid enough. Still, we had to cut back a bit on the fun things we used to do.

2nd Trimester

Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords... savor this, their non-functional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with a head now only one third the size of the body. Intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy. (Much more convenient.)


I can't believe I'm already starting my 2nd trimester! I can't wait until we start buying baby things. Yesterday, we stopped by a garage sale of a lady whose baby store went out of business. She had all thess awesome never used baby things. Bad thing was, that we couldn't really buy anything 'cuz we don't know if we're having a boy or a girl. I can't wait until we find out.... impatiently waiting.
