Friday Random -New mom thoughts

*While I was pregnant I wondered if I would still feel the baby kick during labor and contractions. When I went into the hospital and as I suffered through contractions I was still able to feel Remington kick. At one point, he positioned himself so that his butt was clear up in my ribs on my left side. Around that time I got the epidural and I don't remember feeling him kick after that.

*I never had morning sickness while I was pregnant. I never even felt nauseous. While in the hospital, though, I puked twice from the pain of the contractions. Luckily I hadn't eaten anything since 6pm the previous day.

*I don't understand all the fuss over Twilight. The book was not that good or well written, in my opinion. I've been a fan of vampires and supernatural fiction for a while, and I was not impressed. I like vampires that have the same qualities they've always had, not ones that "sparkle". Give me Anne Rice and Lestat any day.

Less than 10 days until the due date, I can't believe how fast it's going. We got a call from the crib place earlier this week, and the crib is supposed to be in on Monday! Yay, finally.

Landon and I started decorating the house for Halloween tonight. We might not get to see the kids come, but our house will still look awesome. At our next doctor's appointment I'm going to ask if we can induce on Halloween. We might not be able to though since it's on a weekend. We'll find out.

I can't believe we only have two weeks left! It's really getting down to it now. We still don't have a crib, so I'm not sure what we're going to do. We have another weekly doctor appointment Monday and I plan on just relaxing this weekend. I've been feeling pretty crampy the last two days, but if anything it could be Braxton Hicks contractions. I haven't really felt any contractions, but I know this crampy feeling is not real labor contractions because they go away when I change positions and they're constant not coming and going.

Random 10 Friday

I really have nothing much to say. I've been sick the last couple days so I haven't done much. Today I did go shopping with my sister and brother to prepare for the baby shower this Sunday at my parent's house. I can't wait.

Landon and I are starting to decorate for Halloween tomorrow. Last year we went all out and became "that house", the one that the kids were talking about. This was mostly because we handed out huge pixie sticks, full size candy bars, and laffy taffy. We probably had over 100 kids. This year, we plan to do much the same. The only thing is that Remington is due the day after Halloween. If he comes early we'll have someone (one of my brothers, probably) at the house to hand out candy. We both really hope he's born on Halloween, it'd be so cool to have your birthday on Halloween every year.

Landon is watching the movie Tommy right now on VH1 Classic. Now that is a movie you have to watch stoned or high for it to make any since. Weird.

The last couple of days the baby has been kicking my ribs on my right side like no other. It's so uncomfortable and I really wish he'd find a new spot. At the same time, though, it's reassuring that he's moving a lot again. He's just changed his schedule to being active around 5pm instead of 11am.

I can't believe I only have a month left until we can meet our son. I'm excited and nervous. He could really come any time now, but hopefully he waits until right around the due date. As far as work goes it would work out perfectly. The due date is on Sunday. The Friday before that I have a day of (no school), then it's Saturday which is Halloween, then the Monday after is a school inservice day. It'd be awesome if he came anytime during those couple days. We'll see what happens.

Crib Order Mess and Randomness a day late

Friday's post is a day late again due to taking a trip to Wichita to figure out the crib situation. We ordered our crib in May from a baby furniture store in Wichita. Now it's the end of September and we still don't have the crib. The stupid manufacturer sucks. Do not buy from Babies Dream/ Cocoon, no matter what their rating is in Baby Bargains. There seems to be no way that we could get the crib we ordered (which we paid $500 for) in time for the baby, so the store gave us a great deal. We could order one that looked pretty much the same from a different company (Munire) to replace the one we ordered. Also, the store does loaner cribs any time a baby arrives before a crib that you have on order with them. So, if the baby comes early, they'll still have a place to sleep.

So, we went to the store last night after work and looked at what our options were. There were 2 cribs that we could directly replace ours with. They looked pretty much the same and actually cost more than what we paid for our original crib. Munire also has a great rating and reviews from Baby Bargains and online. They use solid Mohagany in their furniture too.

As we're looking at the two cribs, we see another crib that's the same company, way fancier, and costs the same as our two options. We asked the owner if that crib could be an option too. He said yes, because it's the same price as the other two options, the only problem was that that fancier crib would take longer to come than the others. We debated it for awhile and decided to go with the fancier crib. I actually remember liking this crib a lot when we first looked at cribs to buy, but put it out of my mind because it was out of our price range. It should be the middle of October now, when the crib comes.

This whole thing was such a mess. Babies Dream/Cocoon is worthless. Do not buy from them if you want a crib before the baby is like 2 months old. Now I'm happy, though, because we're getting a fancier, more expensive crib for less money and it should be here soon.

While we were in Wichita we of course stopped by Babies R Us and bought some super cute clothes again. We've realized that we don't have very many 0-3 month clothes, so we need to have some smaller clothes soon or he'll have to go naked for those first couple months. :)

We took the puppies to the vet today for their first shots. They did really well, all healthy, and not one of them peed or pooped on the floor! They're now ready to be sold.

She just asked if I was pregnant and if it was a boy or girl. Then the second was today from the vet receptionist. At least I must look pregnant now and not just fat...

Random 10 Friday

I'm so glad this was a short week with Labor day on Monday. I'm so tired. Today is also September 11th. Here's what I remember about doing during the attacks:

I was a senior in high school at the time. The state fair was beginning and all the kids in band were on there way there to play. I wasn't in band so we just went to regular classes. My first class of the day was normal, then I went to my second class- senior English. A few students who had just gotten out of current events class mentioned something about a plane crash, but no more was mentioned. At that time people still thought it was an accident. Then my next class was American Government. The teacher was watching the events on TV. We watched as the first tower was reported as fallen. Then we watched the second tower fall. The teacher was freaking out. Then next couple of classes all we did was watch what was happening on TV. I remember being worried that it was the start of WWIII- which was scary. At one point we watched reports of people celebrating the attacks and we were all appalled. When school was over, I went home and my family made sure to watch the continuing coverage and then the news on BBC to see what the world's reaction was. It was quite the day, and even 8 years later I remember it in great detail. It was my generation's Pearl Harbor.

Yesterday we spent the day getting a new refrigerator since our old one died, so I didn't post this then. Work has also been keeping me busy. I have students back to back everyday with no down time. That on top of being 7 months pregnant is crazy at times.

Glucose Test and Random 10 Friday

Today was the glucose test. I was instructed to drink this orange sugar stuff an hour before the doctor appointment. I'd heard that it is some disgusting tasting stuff, but I didn't think it was that bad. It tasted like overly sweet Gatorade. I then went to the doctor and they took my blood. I don't have gestational diabetes, thankfully! However, I am anemic. So, the doctor suggested iron supplements and just a extra prenatal vitamin that has DHA in it. The DHA is supposed to help the baby neurologically. Now we start our twice a month appointments. It's getting closer! I've had at least three different people at work tell me how small they think I am for being in the 3rd trimester. I can't believe it. I feel huge. Just watch, these last couple weeks I'll just blow up. Fun.

I'm back at work after the summer off. I haven't seen any kids yet, but have been spending my time scheduling them and going to meetings. I'll probably start working with kids at the end of next week. I plan to work right up until the baby is born then take my 6 weeks maternity leave and an extra week, which would go right up to Christmas break. Then I'd go back to work after break. This is considering the baby comes right around his due date. If he's way early or late, it'll change a bit.

My sister got out of the hospital a while ago, but she still has to have an IV for antibiotics twice a day everyday for at least another week.

School starts in a week. Next week on Thursday and Friday I'll start working at two of my 3 schools. The week after that students start, however, since I have to work with all the teachers and sped. teachers to schedule (which is a nightmare) all my students, I won't start seeing my students until they're in school for at least a week. Last year, since it was my first year, I took like two weeks to schedule all my students, but it should go better and faster this year. I so do not want to go back. Two months of kids then maternity leave, though. Yay! I'm just afraid of what will happen if the baby comes sooner. Like what if I go into labor at school?!? Yikes.

We still don't have the crib that we ordered back at the end of May. According to the store, the manufacturer quoted them mid August. We'll see.... We're lucky we ordered it so far ahead of time if it's taking this long to ship it to the store.

My sister is out of the hospital. The doctors still don't really know what was wrong, but at least she's feeling much better.

Yesterday was another monthly doctor visit. She listened to the baby's heart and measured my stomach. So far I'm right on track. The next visit will be the fun fun glucose test. It will also be our last monthly visit before we start going every two weeks. Landon dislikes these doctor appointments because we never do anything, wait forever, and only see the doctor for about 5 minutes. Granted if we were having problems these visit would be more exciting, but I'm glad they're boring. The other night I had a dream that I lost the baby in a miscarriage, when I woke myself up the baby was kicking like crazy. It was very reassuring, he was telling me "Don't worry mom, I'm still here. Let me show you by kicking you in the ribs." The past couple weeks have been a pain for my ribs. No matter how I sit, or if I lay down, there's this pressure right on my ribs.

Go with your gut and randomness.

So, here is the story of my two visits to potential daycares.
1. The first place is two blocks from our house and licensed, so I thought they would be a great place. When I walked in, the house was alright. Not messy or unsafe, but not nice either. It was an older house and didn't look very updated on anything. The lady was super nice though. I really liked her and she had adequate credentials. The main problem was that she wanted money for the entire time to hold the spot. That would be $400 a month for 6 months of the kid not even being there. That is not good. So, she was put off as a last resort kind of spot.

2. The second place was a little further away, but not bad. It's also right across from a small park. I walk in and the house is perfect. It looks a lot like our front rooms with antiques and very clean. Needless to say, the kids are housed in the basement not there. Anyway, this lady is older (almost 70), but super nice. I stayed there for almost an hour just talking to her and watching her interact with the kids. She had 3 two year olds who were required to ask nicely for snacks, etc. She also had two older kids that day who were required to occasionally help out with the little ones. I was amazed when the two year olds were told they had to put up their nap mats before they sat in their chairs for snack, and they actually did it. She's also constantly using GermX and making the kids use it too (I will so be doing this- grad school made me a germ a phobe). Right away I'm loving this lady. Then she says that she doesn't want any money to hold the spot!!! And she only charges $100 a month (vs. a week)!! Amazing! So, I let her know I was interested (even though the original plan was to talk to Landon first-I'm sure he won't mind) and we have the spot. I'll call her when the baby is born and then in January to set up an actual start date.

I am so amazed that we were lucky enough to find this daycare person. I know, that I'll still have to see how it goes when our kid is actually being cared for, but I'm excited. Also, she used to watch the kids of a co-worker, so that's a plus too. Anyway, I'm glad that after this little stressful time of trying to find someone, I'm pretty sure we hit gold. Yay!

Please pray for my sister. She's been in the hospital since yesterday. She's been feeling sick for a couple weeks now and went in with a fever and cough. At first they thought it was a sinus infection, but now the doctors aren't sure what it is. They've been testing for everything from Tuberculosis to lung cancer. She's been feeling better, but pray that they find something minor and she gets better soon. Love you sister!

Yesterday, Landon and I went to another boring doctor appointment. The doctor found the heartbeat right away this time. Everything is looking fine and I'm measuring right where I should be. I've only gained 6 pounds since I first started going to the doctor, but she seemed to think that was okay. The baby has been kicking a lot lately. I can only imagine how it's going to kick during the fireworks tomorrow. Also at the doctors office, we asked for information about doing a 3D/4D ultrasound. They don't have it at our hospital, but we can go to Wichita and have it done for $140, so I'm going to set up an appointment Monday. Should be fun.

I grew up listening to Rock music and continue to love it. Landon grew up on old country and Christian/gospel and is now obsessed with 80s rock. I wonder what our kids will like.
