You Capture- Love Around Your Home

This week's You Capture assignment at I Should Be Folding Laundry is Love around your home. I spent a little bit of time walking around the house for things I love.

I Love Remington's crib and nursery. His name letters turned out really well.

I also love our Pizza Hut lights above the bar downstairs. The Pizza Hut in town was knocking down their old building and selling their fixtures. I got a great deal on these and they take me back to eating there as a kid.

When we bought our house, this doorway was something weird and quirky about the house built in 1917. Yes, it is on the stairs. It's just a closet that also has a doorway in Remington's room. I expect him to have lots of fun playing in there when he's older.

With a new house to fill with furniture and being just out of college, we looked at lots of garage sales and even some antique and flea market stores. This couch came from an antique store that was going out of business.

We're big on having a modern take on antiques. Here are a few more. The lock picture is from a secretary desk and the S is for our last name.

It wouldn't be my house without a million of these. My favorite are Yankee Candles.

And finally, I wouldn't be the obsessed new mother without including a picture of this little guy, whom I , of course, LOVE.

We finally have a crib!!!

After more than 5 months of waiting, we finally have a crib for Remington. Luckily he hasn't come early since we only have 5 days left! Landon and I went to the store yesterday, picked up the crib, and stayed up putting it together. It really wasn't that complicated. Landon had no problem putting it together. I really love the color and design and it looks great with the bedding and the room.

With the days getting closer, I don't know what to think. I've been preoccupied with getting everything done at work before I leave. It's stressing me out. I'm just glad that he hasn't come early and is giving me a chance to make sure everything is ready. I can already tell that it's going to be hard to come back after leave ends in January. At least all the IEPs and high need students are ready. Tomorrow is our doctor's appointment. I highly doubt that I'm dialated at all. I haven't even felt any contractions really. We'll ask if we can induce on Halloween, and hopefully we can. I'll post more tomorrow. Now enjoy the pictures of the crib and the nursery.

Crib Order Mess and Randomness a day late

Friday's post is a day late again due to taking a trip to Wichita to figure out the crib situation. We ordered our crib in May from a baby furniture store in Wichita. Now it's the end of September and we still don't have the crib. The stupid manufacturer sucks. Do not buy from Babies Dream/ Cocoon, no matter what their rating is in Baby Bargains. There seems to be no way that we could get the crib we ordered (which we paid $500 for) in time for the baby, so the store gave us a great deal. We could order one that looked pretty much the same from a different company (Munire) to replace the one we ordered. Also, the store does loaner cribs any time a baby arrives before a crib that you have on order with them. So, if the baby comes early, they'll still have a place to sleep.

So, we went to the store last night after work and looked at what our options were. There were 2 cribs that we could directly replace ours with. They looked pretty much the same and actually cost more than what we paid for our original crib. Munire also has a great rating and reviews from Baby Bargains and online. They use solid Mohagany in their furniture too.

As we're looking at the two cribs, we see another crib that's the same company, way fancier, and costs the same as our two options. We asked the owner if that crib could be an option too. He said yes, because it's the same price as the other two options, the only problem was that that fancier crib would take longer to come than the others. We debated it for awhile and decided to go with the fancier crib. I actually remember liking this crib a lot when we first looked at cribs to buy, but put it out of my mind because it was out of our price range. It should be the middle of October now, when the crib comes.

This whole thing was such a mess. Babies Dream/Cocoon is worthless. Do not buy from them if you want a crib before the baby is like 2 months old. Now I'm happy, though, because we're getting a fancier, more expensive crib for less money and it should be here soon.

While we were in Wichita we of course stopped by Babies R Us and bought some super cute clothes again. We've realized that we don't have very many 0-3 month clothes, so we need to have some smaller clothes soon or he'll have to go naked for those first couple months. :)

The baby shower has been set for October 11th at my parents house. I can't wait!

They're Landon's favorite band. We'll also see Theory of a Deadman (one of my favorites) for the 3rd time, and Godsmack and Drowning Pool for the first time. It outta be a great time!!!

My sister got out of the hospital a while ago, but she still has to have an IV for antibiotics twice a day everyday for at least another week.

School starts in a week. Next week on Thursday and Friday I'll start working at two of my 3 schools. The week after that students start, however, since I have to work with all the teachers and sped. teachers to schedule (which is a nightmare) all my students, I won't start seeing my students until they're in school for at least a week. Last year, since it was my first year, I took like two weeks to schedule all my students, but it should go better and faster this year. I so do not want to go back. Two months of kids then maternity leave, though. Yay! I'm just afraid of what will happen if the baby comes sooner. Like what if I go into labor at school?!? Yikes.

We still don't have the crib that we ordered back at the end of May. According to the store, the manufacturer quoted them mid August. We'll see.... We're lucky we ordered it so far ahead of time if it's taking this long to ship it to the store.

Baby Shopping

Today, Landon and I took a trip to Wichita to shop for baby items. The first place we go is Target so that we can compare prices to other stores. I think that for the most part, Target and Babies R Us will provide us with everything we need. Next, we go to a local place called Tiny Tykes Furniture. They had an amazing selection of cribs and nursery furniture. I think we've decided on a crib from there too (see picture). We planned to buy a crib or carseat today, and we finally decided on a carseat.
Our major problem with carseats is our car. It's a 2002 Firebird, which is obviously not made for transporting children. We went to Babies R Us and with the help of the sales person were able to decide on a carseat that would most likely fit our car (see picture). We get home though, and it's a pain to get the carseat to fit in the car without making the person in the front seat suffer. We finally found that if we put it on the passenger side, and have me sit in the front while Landon drives is the only way that we'll be able to manage. We're not selling the car, so I'll just have to be smashed for a year, while the carseat has to be rearfacing. The carseat itself is awesome. It's light and super easy to get in and out of the base. I think that we'll really enjoy it. Stupid car, though.
We also stopped by a baby consignment shop, which would be great to shop in, if we knew we were having a boy or girl. Their selection of cheap clothes was great. We also stopped at the mall to check out JC Penneys, etc. I also like JC Penney's selection of baby items. On a whim, we stopped at Spencers and found a cute onesie (see picture) if we have a girl- if we don't ever have a girl, maybe a neice. By the time we were done shopping, we were both ready to go home and take a nap. Eventually we start buying more things, but we still have 5 months left.
